For federal court matters, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey has statewide jurisdiction, and distance from the office is not a barrier to representation.

Bergen County and Passaic County share a border and together are home to a large and established immigrant population. Family immigration petitions, removal defense hearings, and immigration bond proceedings for residents of both counties are handled in the same network of courts and agencies.

Removal proceedings and bond hearings for detained residents of northern New Jersey are heard by the Newark Immigration Court. The Elizabeth Contract Detention Facility in Elizabeth and Delaney Hall in Newark are the primary detention facilities for individuals detained by ICE in this region. The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, in Newark, handles federal habeas corpus petitions for people detained within the district.

Family immigration petitions are filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and are handled administratively. The USCIS Newark Field Office handles adjustment of status interviews and biometrics appointments for residents of northern New Jersey. Those filings do not require the petitioner to travel to any court.

The Ridgewood office is well located to serve clients in both counties. The drive from downtown Paterson is approximately 15 miles and typically takes 25 to 35 minutes. From Hackensack and other Bergen County municipalities, the office is generally within 20 minutes.

For clients who prefer to meet in person, the Ridgewood office is open by appointment.

For matters that require court appearances in Newark, the firm handles those appearances directly. Clients do not need to be present at most administrative filings with USCIS or at routine immigration court scheduling hearings. Your attorney will advise you on when your presence is required and when it is not.
